The origin of the term Luddite is uncertain but over time, the word came to describe people opposed to any form of technological progress.
However (and contrary to mainstream opinion), many neo-luddites don’t fear for their jobs, they do not “hate” technology, they just prefer technologies that work with and for them. Luddites protest against the negative impacts that technology has on individuals, their communities and the environment. The smartest form of luddism or neo- luddism is not one that commends violence, it’s one that calls for a better understanding of new technologies and demands that people have a voice in how they are to be distributed and used.
